This rectangular frame is dated to the seventeenth century and was originally made for a portrait. It is richly carved with festoons. On every side the frame is additionally decorated with flowers and fruit resulting in more relief. The frame is surmounted by a putto seated holding a branch.

In the Netherlands in the seventeenth century richly carved frames were frequently used for portraits.
