The two figures on the handles of the knife and fork carry croziers, which reveals them to be an abbot and abbes. They could very well be Saints Claire and Francis who were often depicted together. Considering the iconography, the original owner of this cutlery must have been a dignitary of the Church, possibly an abbot, who demonstrated his position in the ecclesiastical community by using these exceptional eating utensils.
