Description
The jardiniere is finely painted on the exterior with a rocky landscape, with water and trees, in strong tones. In the landscape are several scholars, sitting on the rocks, and a boat floating on the river. Several houses are depicted on the jardiniere.
This jardiniere of Kangxi blue and white porcelain was produced in China during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi. Kangxi blue and white porcelain features delicate and refined designs, inspired by the periods that went before. These designs are combined with great technical skills to make high quality porcelain with a brilliant under-glaze blue for the painting and a fine white glaze applied to a very white body. The most beautiful examples of Kangxi blue and white porcelain rival any other Chinese blue and white porcelain produced during earlier periods.
