Description
Christ is shown seated in a contemplative position with his head cast downwards.
A classical dimension is added to the sculpture in Liechtenstein’s collection, as is the case with the present one. The body of Christ is modelled after an antique, hellenistic example- a resting figure of Hercules. Depicting Christ in this manner is a reference to the prefiguration of Hercules as Christ, as well as to the heroic suffering of Christ.
