Description
The dish is decorated to the centre with a bird of prey, surrounded by a white-glazed border, modelled with bosses. Between 1550 and 1600 Haarlem was the centre of the maiolica production in the Netherlands. So-called 'noppenbordjes' were produced between circa 1590 until 1625. The shape of these dishes was inspired by metal plates and dishes. Usually they are painted with figurative decorations: animals, people, attributes, as is the case with the present example that depicts a bird of prey.
